Sumona Chakravarty Says Kapil Sharma’s Show Gave Her Financial Stability: ‘I Could Afford To Buy…’

“It has given me a lot and yet its been a double-edged sword. The show was a good ten years for me. It is a very long time. I was financially stable. I come from a very simple middle-class Bengali family. I could afford to buy a house in Mumbai because of that show. I am very grateful. Financial freedom for women today is very important,” Sumona told SCREEN.

Talking about the popularity that Kapil Sharma’s shows enjoyed, Sumona added, “It is also the immense love and popularity that the show has given me across the world.”

Sumona shared how the show is also very popular in Thailand and continued by saying, “The show has been dubbed in Thai. I was at a Thai restaurant, and it so happened that my local Indian-Thai friend came to me and said, ‘All the server and host want to take a picture with you.’ They were all Thai. I wondered why, then they showed me the show’s clip. It was ridiculously funny to watch me speaking Thai in the show.”

Sumona Chakravarty, who worked with Kapil Sharma in Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show, was not a part of the comedian’s The Great Indian Kapil Show. In 2024, while Sumona was in Romania for Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, a report did the rounds claiming she did not leave The Kapil Sharma Show by choice but was rather not informed about the comedian’s new show, The Great Indian Kapil Show.

However, the former Bade Achhe Lagte Hai actress later spoke exclusively to News18 Showsha and clarified that this was not the case. Chakravarti made it clear that she wasn’t fired from Kapil Sharma’s show.

“I have said this time and again, I was part of a show which ended in July last year and it’s not like you exited or I resigned or I got fired, the show ended in July and after that, we all went ahead. We took up our individual projects after that. I’m doing Khatron Ke Khiladi. He (Kapil Sharma) did another show. It’s just that there is no bad blood at all. Why would I be upset (with Kapil)? He and I worked before and I went to Romania,” she told us.
