Kumar Vishwas moves court for scrapping of FIR against him

Hindi poet and former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him at Rupnagar police station.

The complaint, on which the FIR was registered, mentions that Kumar Vishwas made “inflammatory” statements against AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during the Punjab polls.

Right before the polls, a video was released by the Bharatiya Janata Party, in which Kumar Vishwas alleged that during a conversation some years ago, Arvind Kejriwal told him that one day, either he [Kejriwal] would become chief minister of Punjab or the first Prime Minister of an independent nation [Khalistan].

After Vishwas’s statement was put out, Arvind Kejriwal was allegedly stopped by some masked men in a village and called a “Khalistani” during a campaign. The complaint alleged that the number of such incidents increased in the wake of the Kumar Vishwas statement.

The Ropar police have registered a case under Sections 153, 153A, 505, 505 (2) , 116 read with Section 143, 147, 323 (assault), 341 (illegal confinement), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and under Representation of Peoples Act was registered against Kumar Vishwas and Alka Lamba on April 12.

During the Punjab Assembly polls, Kumar Vishwas had accused Kejriwal of supporting separatists. The Congress leader Alka Lamba has been also accused of backing the remarks made by Vishwas.
