Authorities on Monday demolished the encroachment at a Noida housing society by Shrikant Tiwari, the self-proclaimed BJP worker in the news for allegedly abusing and assaulting a woman last week.

Bulldozers, accompanied by teams of Noida Police, rolled in at the Grand Omaxe in Noida’s Sector 93, where Shrikant Tyagi had manhandled and hurled expletives at a woman resident after she reportedly confronted him about encroachment by him. The video of the incident went viral.

Residents of the Noida housing society were seen cheering and clapping as a bulldozer brought down the illegal construction by Tyagi. “We are happy with this action by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and CEO of Noida Authority. We were annoyed with his [Tyagi’s] illegal construction and attitude,” a resident said.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said, “CM has taken cognisance of the whole case, we will not let the accused walk free. Strict action will be taken against those who break the law.”

Shrikant Tyagi, who is absconding, was booked under Indian Penal Code section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on any woman, intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty) on Friday over a spat with a co-resident of their housing society in Noida’s Sector 93B.

Noida Police later slapped the Gangster Act on Shrikant Tyagi, under which his properties can be attached and demolished. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) Ranvijay Singh told PTI that police teams are continuously raiding possible whereabouts of Tyagi and making all efforts to ensure his arrest at the earliest.

In 2019, the Grand Omaxe Association of Apartment Owners wrote a letter to the Noida Authority for the removal of encroachment by Shrikant Tyagi. The Noida Authority had sent a notice to Shrikant Tyagi in February 2020.

The BJP has distanced itself from the controversy, saying that Tyagi was not a member of the party.

THE CASE AGAINT SHRIKANT TYAGI
Shrikant Tyagi had allegedly illegally occupied the society park, which inconvenienced the other residents. He was served with a notice over the illegal occupancy of the park, but Shrikant allegedly refused to do so and tried to use his position to his advantage.

Last week, a woman resident had objected to plantation of some trees by Shrikant Tyagi, citing violation of rules even as he claimed he was within his rights to do so. In the midst of the spat, Tyagi lost his cool and started hurling abuses at her. When the woman protested, he allegedly pushed and manhandled her.

Videos of the incident were shared multiple times on social media, with one purportedly showing Shrikant Tyagi hurling expletives and assaulting the woman. Tyagi also hurled abusive words at her husband and made derogatory remarks about her.
