US President says Elon Musk’s ties to other nations worthy of being looked at

US President Joe Biden on Thursday said that Tesla and Twitter owner Elon Musk’s ties to other nations are “worth being looked at” over national security concerns.

President Biden was responding to a question about whether he thought Musk was a threat to national security and if his acquisition of Twitter with help from a Saudi Arabian conglomerate should be investigated by the US government.

“I think that Elon Musk’s cooperation and or technical relationships with other countries is worthy of being looked at, whether or not he is doing anything inappropriate. I’m not suggesting that, I’m suggesting it’s worth being looked at,” he said.

Musk bought social media platform Twitter for $44 billion last month but advertisers have already paused their spending over fear about content moderation and the potential return of previously suspended users such as Donald Trump.

In a series of tweets focusing on the way forward, Musk said the social media platform needed to become by far the most accurate source of information about the world.

The White House had last month said reports the United States was discussing launching a national security review of some of Musk’s ventures, including Twitter, were “not true.”
