Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on Monday became the first batter in limited-overs cricket to score seven sixes and 43 runs in a single over during.

One of the over’s balls was a no-ball, on which Gaikwad hit a six. Maharashtra scored 330 runs for five wickets in 50 overs based on his innings. Gaikwad smashed 220 off 159 balls, including 16 sixes and ten fours, to help Maharashtra reach 330/5 in 50 overs after batting first.

Gaikwad’s mayhem in the penultimate over propelled him from 165 off 147 to 207 off 154, his first double-century in List A cricket. Gaikwad, 25, now holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single over with 42.

Elton Chigumbura of Zimbabwe held the previous record, scoring 39 off Alauddin Babu in a Dhaka Premier Division match in 2013. Shiva’s 43 runs conceded are now the joint-most in List A cricket history, tied with Willem Ludick of New Zealand.
