The race for the US Presidential elections scheduled to be held in 2024 has heaten up with the Indian-origin Republic Nikki Haley launching her presidential bid.

Former US President Donald Trump slammed his former United Nations ambassador for her previous support of cutting Medicare and social security, reported The Hill.

Trump, who was the first Republican to launch a 2024 presidential bid, in his campaign put out a press release titled “The Real Nikki Haley” for past support for social security cutes and turning Medicare into a voucher system.

“Haley praised Ryan’s Medicare proposal at the time and said lawmakers should examine Medicare and Social Security spending to address federal debt,” the release read.

He also highlighted a 2010 Fox News interview where Nikki Haley indicated Congress should be looking to cut Medicaid and social security.

In a 2020 tweet highlighting a news article about social security costs, Haley wrote, “the pandemic is expected to weigh on the financial condition of Social Security” and that it is “time for Congress to start cutting not spending.”

Trump had warned US House Republicans to leave medicare and social security cuts out of debt ceiling negotiations. He warned his fellow Republicans not to “destroy” federal retirement and health benefits as they try to exact spending cuts from President Joe Biden and his Democratic allies in the looming debate over the debt ceiling.

The former US President is also attacking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has not officially declared his candidacy but is seen as Trump’s main rival for the 2024 GOP nomination.

Republican leaders are facing pressure from their right flank to slash federal spending and rein in deficits, the report said.

On Tuesday, Haley announced her US Presidential bid. “I’m Nikki Haley and I’m running for president,” Haley said in a video that her team sent out by email.

A Sikh born in Bamberg, South Carolina in 1972 to Ajit Singh Randhawa and Raj Kaur Randhawa, Nikki was born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa. Haley converted to Christianity after her marriage to Michael Haley in 1996.

Nikki Haley, 51, is the two-term Governor of South Carolina and the former US Ambassador to the United Nations.
