Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude hits Nicobar islands

An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter scale hit the Nicobar islands region, said the National Center for Seismology on Monday.

The earthquake occurred at around 5:07 am today. There were no reports of damage to the property or loss of life.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake jolted the Nicobar islands region at the depth of 10 km.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:5.0, Occurred on 06-03-2023, 05:07:16 IST, Lat: 7.97 & Long: 91.65, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: Nicobar islands region,” tweeted the NCS.

Earlier, a 2.5-magnitude earthquake was followed by two consecutive tremors shook Uttarkashi in the early hours of Sunday, a district disaster management official said. The epicentre of the first quake, which occurred at 12.45 am, was in Siror forest in Bhatwari area of the district.
