IPL 2023: Former Royal Challengers Bangalore star AB de Villiers reveals his greatest T20 player of all time
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore player AB de Villiers has revealed the name of who he thinks is the greatest T20 player of all time.
The mercurial batter, who has played several iconic innings in the Indian Premier League has not picked his long-time teammate Virat Kohli or Chris Gayle as the top player, rather has named Rashid Khan as the T20 GOAT.
Speaking to SuperSport, the former RCB player reasoned his pick saying that Khan delivers in all three departments of the sport – batting, bowling and fielding.
“My greatest T20 player of all time is none other than Rashid Khan. He delivers with bat and ball. Match winner in both departments; he is a livewire in the field and has got the heart of a lion. He always wants to win; he’s very competitive, and he’s right there with one of the best T20 players. Not one of the best, the best”, he said on SuperSport.
Rashid has been riveting since making his debut in 2015. The 24-year-old is the second-highest wicket-taker in the history of T20s and stands only behind Dwayne Bravo. The leg spinner, feared for his pace through the air and deceptive variations has 514 wickets from 382 matches at a ridiculous average of 18.17.
A globe-trotter, Rashid is the finest player to come from Afghanistan, traditionally an associate nation and has played a big part in the rapid rise of his country’s cricketing stocks.
De Villiers, considered as one of the best batters ever to play T20 cricket was recently in India to hold discussion with the Royal Challengers Bangalore management. The retired player, reportedly discussed possibilities of a non-playing role with the RCB franchise for the Indian Premier League 2023 season.
