Sasaram blast caused by mishandling of illegal explosives, 2 arrested: Bihar Police

At least six people were injured after a bomb blast in Sasaram’s Rohtas in Bihar during the handling of illegal explosives on Saturday. Bihar Police arrested two people in connection with the blast.

In a tweet, Bihar Police said that the incident was not communal.

“Information was received about the incident of a bomb blast in Sasaram of Rohtas. A scooty has also been recovered. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team is reaching the spot to investigate. Prima facie it does not appear to be a communal incident,” said Bihar police.

The police further said that the injured people were referred to BHU hospital. According to Sasaram DM, Dharmendra Kumar, “There was a bomb blast in Sasaram. Injured people were referred to BHU hospital. We’re investigating all the angles right now. The cause of the blast is unknown.”

The bomb blast took place a day after communal clashes broke out in Sasaram on the occasion of Ram Navami.

A clash broke out between two groups in Sasaram on Friday after the Ram Navami procession.

Umesh Pal was gunned down outside his Prayagraj home on February 24. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf stand accused of being involved in a conspiracy, while they were both in prison, to kill Umesh Pal.

Atiq Ahmed is a former Samajwadi Party MP from Phulpur and a five-time MLA. He is named in more than 100 criminal cases.

Atiq Ahmed is the main accused in the murder case of BSP legislator Raju Pal, which took place in 2005. MLA Raju Pal was murdered months after winning the Allahabad (West) Assembly seat in his electoral debut by defeating former MP Atiq Ahmed’s younger brother Khalid Azim.
