Mukesh Kumar was amazing under pressure: David Warner hails DC bowlers after thrilling 7-run win vs SRH
Delhi Capitals captain David Warner hailed his side’s bowlers for holding their nerves to defend a below-par score of 144 against SunRisers Hyderabad for a thrilling victory in the IPL 2023 on April 24.
Mukesh Kumar held his nerve in the final over to defend 13 runs as Delhi Capitals registered a seven-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a last-over thriller at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Washington Sundar fought until the last ball for Sunrisers Hyderabad, but his unbeaten 24-run knock was in vain. Hyderabad’s batting was abysmal, as they were restricted to 137/6 in response to Delhi’s 144/9. Warner thanked the Hyderabad crowd for their immense support throughout the IPL 2023 match against SRH while adding it was great for DC to get the two points at an away venue.
“I love it here. It’s an amazing crowd. I haven’t been here for a long time. Thankfully my hair can only go white from here, it can’t go gray. This game throws up some challenges,” David Warner said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Warner lauded Mukesh Kumar for the way he bowled in the final over to defend 13 runs and stated that the spin duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have been the rock for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing season.
“Mukesh there under pressure was absolutely amazing and our two spinners were great. You don’t want them to get used to bowlers in back-to-back bowlers so if I can maneuver them around in the middle overs it can work.
Warner also revealed that Ishant told him from day one that he was ready and unfortunately he fell sick a couple of games back but was brilliant in this game. The DC skipper signed off by saying that a lot of teams still have more points than them and for them, it is about resetting and going again.
“[On Ishant] Credit to him. He’s worked very hard to get back into the IPL and to bowl as well as he did was exceptional. To win tonight, hopefully we can make it three in a row. We’ve got another against Sunrisers next,” Warner signed off.
