Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra and Doda areas were jolted by a total of three earthquakes in the early hours of Wednesday, thus, triggering panic among residents.
The fresh tremors were felt a day after a 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, causing damage to scores of buildings and injuring at least five people.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the first earthquake, measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale, was felt at 2.20 am on June 14.
The epicentre of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km and 81 km from Katra.
The second earthquake measured 3.5 on the Richter Scale and was felt at 7.56 am.
The epicentre of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.
The third earthquake measured 3.3 on the Richter Scale and was felt at 8.29 am.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the third earthquake was at a depth of 5 km in Kishtwar.
MAGNITUDE 5.4 EARTHQUAKE IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR
On Tuesday, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, causing damage to scores of buildings and injuring at least five people, officials told PTI.
The tremors were felt across Delhi and other parts of north India, and in neighbouring Pakistan. People in parts of the Union Territory rushed out of their homes in panic.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said the 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the region at 1:33 pm. Its epicentre was in Doda.
The earthquake struck at a depth of 6 kilometres, it said.
Five people, including two children, suffered minor injuries in the Doda district, officials said.
