India vs Pakistan: Virat Kohli hits 47th ODI century, breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record for fastest to 13000 runs
Virat Kohli, on Monday, September 11, became the fastest batter to score 13000 runs in ODIs.
The veteran broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar, who set the record way back in 2004 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
Kohli achieved the feat in India’s Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match against Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Even as Sachin accomplished the feat in his 321st innings, Kohli got there in his 267th innings of his ODI career.
The Delhi-born Kohli, in the meantime, also racked up his 47th hundred in ODIs and is only two hundreds away from Tendulkar’s tally of centuries in the 50-over format of international cricket. In the third ball of the 48th over, Kohli tapped the ball to the off side off Shaheen Shah Afridi to get to the three-figure score.
3000 ODI runs and counting for 👑 Kohli
Kohli came to bat after Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma took India off to a flying start. Shadab Khan prized out the wicket of Rohit, after which Kohli came out. Soon after, the Men in Blue lost another wicket of Gill, who fell to the guile of Shaheen Shah Afridi.
When rain interrupted proceedings, Kohli was unbeaten on eight runs. When play resumed on reserve day at 4:40 PM IST, Kohli looked a tad cautious about starting his knock. But he gradually upped the ante to score his half-century off 55 balls.
After reaching his fifty, Kohli stepped further on the gas and started taking the attack to the Pakistani bowlers. During this while, he also brought up his 100-run stand with KL Rahul, who looked in good form on his return following an injury layoff.
