India batter Rishabh Pant has been out of action since his near-fatal car accident in December 2022.
After multiple surgeries and a strenuous recovery programme, Pant is expected to return to action in the Indian Premier League 2024 season.
Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly has said that he is really excited to have Pant back into the side. While speaking to RevSportz, Ganguly has said that Pant himself wants to return in action in the IPL 2024 and has been training really hard to achieve his fitness.
“It’s a huge boost for Delhi Capitals because Indian players are gold in the IPL. Obviously, he has not played much cricket and I hope he gets back to rhythm very quickly. It’s been a while he is away from competitive cricket, almost 17-18 months. He has worked very hard to make a comeback. He is confident and wants to play for Delhi Capitals and India. I am extremely happy he is back and hope he gets through the season,” Ganguly told Revsportz.
The India wicketkeeper-batter was present in the IPL auction in December 2023, with Delhi Capitals. Pant, ever since his accident, has made multiple apprearances in the public, especially during the previous IPL season to boost the morale of his team.
It was reported in the Indian media that Pant might be brought in as an Impact Player rather than straining his body with a full time role. In Pant’s absence last year, David Warner captained the Delhi side but was not able to have the desirable impact. Capitals finished in the second last post IPL 2023. The team added nine players to their roster ahead of the 2024 season. Among them was Harry Brook, Tristan Stubbs and Shai Hope.
