On Tuesday night, Facebook, Instagram and Threads users reported that they couldn’t access the social media apps. Meta Quest users too had issues logging in to their headsets.

The outage lasted for about an hour, and now, all apps are working normally. When the apps had suffered the outage, Elon Musk’s X was flooded with posts from people who were affected. Musk himself also reacted to the outage, mocking his competitor. On the other hand, some YouTube users had also reported an error in the app, saying that they were having issues logging in.

Facebook, Instagram back after an hour-long outage
As mentioned already, Facebook, Instagram and Threads are now back online after suffering an outage that roughly lasted for an hour. Facebook was the first app to restore its operations followed by Instagram and Threads. Meta Quest users too can now easily log back in to their accounts.

On the other hand, some YouTube users also reported experiencing an error on the platform. However, for some, a simple click on the “Retry” button seemed to resolve the issue.

Responding to the users’ complaints, the team shared in a statement that they were working on a fix.

When Instagram, Facebook stopped working
At the time of the outage, users had shared that they were encountering “failure to load” error pages on both Instagram and Facebook. On the other hand, some said that when it comes to Instagram, they could still see older stories along with the error. However, when it comes to Facebook, many accounts had been logged out.

As soon as the social media apps stopped working, users began sharing their experiences on X.

Sharing a video of people using an escalator, a user wrote, “When you realise both Facebook and Instagram are down and everybody rushing towards X.” Another Facebook user tweeted, “Has Facebook logged anyone else out and giving errors when trying to get back in ? Always gives me the fear someone has hacked it.”

While some people were joking about the outage, others were getting worried after they were suddenly locked out of their accounts. Several users also started panicking as they thought that they were hacked or under some form of cyberattack. However, users calmed down when they got to know that the apps were suffering an outage and they had not been hacked.

Talking about how he is relieved to find out that his account hasn’t been hacked, a user wrote, “Me after checking on Twitter that Meta is just down and I’m not hacked since my Instagram isn’t loading and my Facebook got “session logged out.”

As usual, Elon Musk also jumped on the meme bandwagon and mocked his competitor. He tweeted that X servers were working all fine. And then added for good measure that he could understand why Twitter users were talking about services that were down.

Responding to the outage and acknowledging the issue, Meta had said in a statement, “We are aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now: Meta Communications Team.”
