Ex-President Pratibha Patil, 89, hospitalised due to fever, chest infection

Former President of India, Pratibha Patil, has been hospitalised in Maharashtra due to chest infection and fever, officials said.

The 89-year-old was admitted to Pune’s Bharati Hospital on Wednesday, and her condition is now stable, officials added.

A senior official of the hospital told news agency PTI that Pratibha Patil was admitted on Wednesday night.

“She had a fever along with some infection in the chest. Her health condition is (now) stable,” the senior official further stated.

The former President is undergoing treatment and “being monitored closely”, the senior official said.

Pratibha Patil served as India’s first woman President from 2007 to 2012. She served as the 12th President of India.

She previously served as the Lok Sabha MP from Amravati in Maharashtra from 1991 to 1996, and then as the Governor of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2007. Pratibha Patil served as the 17th Governor of Rajasthan, the first woman to hold that office.
