Elon Musk, billionaire businessman and CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla, on Friday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for returning to power after winning.

The Lok Sabha elections. Musk stated he looks forward to his companies doing “exciting work” in India. “Congratulations Narendra Modi on your victory in the world’s largest democratic elections! Looking forward to my companies doing exciting work in India,” Musk wrote on X.

Narendra Modi was named as the Prime Minister-designate by President Draupadi Murmu today, and he is set to take oath for the third straight term on Sunday. Under his leadership, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won 293 out of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha.

Just before the elections, Musk announced his India visit. However, it was later postponed due to “very heavy Tesla obligations”.

In June last year, Musk and PM Modi held a discussion in the US. Upon the meeting, Musk called himself “fan of Modi” and stated that Tesla would be investing in India.

He also noted that PM Modi was pushing the carmaker to make a “significant investment” in the country and even stated that such an announcement was expected soon.

“He [Modi] really cares about India because he’s pushing us to make significant investments in India, which is something we intend to do …I am confident that Tesla will be in India and will do so as soon as humanly possible,” Musk told reporters after the 2023 meeting.
