The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a petition seeking an investigation into the alleged irregularities.
In the NEET-UG 2024 examination by central investigative agencies, including the ED and CBI. The court asked the petitioner to make his point during the next hearing on the matter on July 8.
The petitioner sought an urgent hearing of the plea seeking a probe into the NEET-UG row by ED and CBI and a case being filed against the accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). However, the Supreme Court refused to hear the matter.
On June 20, the Supreme Court paused all cases on the alleged leaks and malpractices pertaining to the NEET-UG 2024 exam in various High Courts.
A bench constituting Justice Vikram Nath and Justice SVN Bhatti issued a notice on the petitions by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to transfer all NEET-related pleas in seven High Courts and get them heard together in the Supreme Court. The bench fixed July 8 for their next hearing.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Centre and the NTA on petitions seeking the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 and a court-monitored probe into the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination.
The Supreme Court heard a total of 14 petitions during the hearing. Of these, 10 were filed by 49 students and a student organisation called ‘Student Federation of India’. Meanwhile, the remaining four were submitted by the NTA.
On June 19, the Supreme Court refused to halt the NEET counselling, and also declined to direct the CBI to take up the probe into the alleged paper leaks and malpractices.
The NEET-UG 2024 was held on May 5 across 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for the medical entrance exam.
