Shinde Sena leader detained after son’s BMW rams couple on bike in Mumbai, killing woman

A woman died and her husband was injured in a hit-and-run incident in Mumbai’s Worli when a BMW car rammed their scooter early on Sunday.

The car was being driven allegedly by Mihir Shah, the son of a leader of Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The 24-year-old man has been absconding since the incident.

Rajesh Shah, Mihir Shah’s father and the deputy leader of the Shinde Sena in Palghar district, has been detained by the police. The BMW was registered in his name, according to the police. Rajesh Shah’s driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, has also been detained by the police.

The victims, residents of Worli’s Koliwada area, had just returned from Sassoon Dock after purchasing fish when the vehicle knocked them down near Atria Mall around 5.30 am, police said.

The collision, which occurred from behind, resulted in severe injuries to the fisherman .Pradip Nakhaw (50) and his wife, Kaveri Nakawa (45), who succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Mumbai Police officials said that efforts to arrest Mihir Shah, are underway. Mihir’s driver was also with him inside the car when the incident took place, according to police.

Calling it a “very unfortunate incident,” Chief Minister Shinde promised that the case will be investigated impartially.

“The hit-and-run incident that happened in Mumbai is unfortunate. I have spoken to the police, and strict action will be taken as per the law. Everyone will be treated equally,” the Chief Minister told the media.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackrey visited the Worli police station and met the husband of the victim. He called for swift arrest of the accused and urged rising beyond politics to ensure strict action in hit-and-run cases.

“Visited the Worli Police Station today and met with senior police officers investigating the hit-and-run case that occurred in Worli today. I will not go into the political leanings of Mr Shah, the accused of the hit-and-run, but I hope the police will act swiftly to catch the accused and bring him to justice. Hopefully there will be no political refuge by the regime,” he wrote on X.
