The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has moved the Supreme Court on Monday, challenging the bail of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

It said that the Jharkhand High Court’s order, granting bail to Soren, was “illegal”. In its plea, the ED said that the High Court had “erred” in saying that there was no prima facie case against the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief.

Soren walked out of the Birsa Munda jail in Ranchi on June 28 after the High Court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to a land scam.

After his release, former Jharkhand chief minister and JMM leader Champai Soren stepped down from his post. Hemant Soren then moved a confidence motion in the Assembly and became the Chief Minister again after winning the trust vote.
