The family members of the 31-year-old trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered.
At Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, revealed their harrowing ordeal after they were informed about the incident. The family said they were told that their daughter had died by suicide and were made to wait outside the hospital for three hours before they could see her body.
Lallantop, India Today TV’s sister channel, spoke to the parents and relatives of the victim. The father of the trainee doctor said when he got a call from the hospital, he knew something had happened to his daughter.
“She (pointing at his wife) started crying. They (hospital authorities) said our daughter has died by suicide and we must come immediately,” he said.
“We ask everyone (who is coming to meet us)… give us justice. Our daughter cannot be returned to us, but we can at least seek justice for her,” he added.
Sources told India Today TV that the Assistant Superintendent of RG Kar Hospital’s Chest Medicine Wing was the first to inform the victim’s family about the incident. The Assistant Superintendent told them that she died by suicide inside the hospital premises, sources said.
One of the relatives, who lives in the neighbourhood and went with the parents to the hospital, said the victim’s mother was inconsolable after learning about her daughter.
“I heard her (mother) cry aloud. When I went there, she hugged me and cried that everything is over. She told me her daughter has died by suicide as told by the hospital,” the relative said.
The relative said when they reached the hospital, they were made to wait outside for three hours.
“The parents pleaded before them (hospital authorities) to show them their daughter’s face. But still they were made to wait for three hours,” the relative said.
The relative recounted the horrific condition in which the trainee doctor’s body was found.
“After three hours, they allowed the father to go inside and see her body. He was only allowed to click a picture, which he showed us when he came outside. She had no clothes on her body. Her legs were 90 degrees apart… this cannot happen unless the pelvic girdle breaks, which means she was torn apart,” the relative said.
“Her specs were broken and there were shards of glasses in her eyes. She was choked to death. I am not making this up. This has been proven in the post-mortem too,” she added.
WHAT DID THE AUTOPSY REVEAL?
The four-page postmortem report of the trainee doctor revealed that she was throttled to death. Her thyroid cartilage was broken due to strangling and injuries were found on her belly, lips, fingers, and left leg.
The report also mentioned that the woman was bleeding from both eyes, mouth and private parts. The report said the wounds in her private parts were caused by “perverted sexuality” and “genital torture”.
However, the reason for her eye wound has not been determined yet.
On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court transferred the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
