Stat Pack: R Ashwin emulates MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid after Chepauk Test hundred

Ravi Ashwin was stupendous when India and Bangladesh faced each other on Day 1 of the opening Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

He scored an unbeaten 102 and bailed India out of jail after the home team was reduced to 144 for six in 42.2 overs. He came to bat at No.8 and played his shots right from the outset.

Ashwin got to his fifty off 58 balls, after which he racked up his hundred off 108 deliveries. He joined hands with Ravindra Jadeja and built a partnership of 195 along with Ravindra Jadeja for the seventh wicket. On the back of his knock, India finished the first day at 339 for the loss of six wickets in 80 overs.

While Ashwin stole the show for India, Bangladesh had their hero in the form of Hasan Mahmud, who had figures of 18-4-58-4. The speedster got the early wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli and reduced India to 34 for three in 9.2 overs. He also returned to get the wicket of Rishabh Pant, who was starting to look dangerous.
