Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has recommended a major reshuffle within.

The organisation, with action against leaders in around 120 municipalities where the party performed poorly in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Abhishek Banerjee, an MP from Diamond Harbour, also suggested the changing of unit heads in ten districts where TMC’s performance was not as per expectations.

In his report to his aunt and party chief Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee also put forward a performance-based reshuffle in the Trinamool Congress, aiming to strengthen its effectiveness and improve electoral accountability. In the Lok Sabha polls, the TMC got 29 seats while the BJP managed to secure 12 seats.

Speaking to the media about his recommendations, Abhishek Banerjee said, “I sent a report to the party chairperson (Mamata Banerjee) about the performance and recommendations of all civic bodies before I went abroad. The implementation of these recommendations is up to her.”

According to sources, the reshuffle was aimed at ensuring more unity and effectiveness in the organisation ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The changes are expected to be implemented after the November bypolls.

A post-Lok Sabha polls analysis showed that TMC did not perform well in certain municipal areas, following which an in-depth report was taken from different districts. After that, Abhishek Banerjee was tasked to prepare a new list suggesting major changes in the areas.

The report by Abhishek Banerjee came at a time when several TMC leaders, including Kunal Ghosh, have pitched his name as the future Chief Minister of West Bengal after Mamata Banerjee.
