AR Rahman’s Wife Saira’s Lawyer Reveals Reason Behind Bollywood Divorces: ‘Expectations From Sex Life…’
AR Rahman recently announced his separation from his wife, Saira Banu, after 30 years of marriage.
This left the ace musician’s fans in shock, wondering what could be the reason behind this split. Amid this, a video has gone viral in which Vandana Shah, Saira’s lawyer, could be seen explaining why marriages don’t last in Bollywood. Vandana spoke about Bollywood marriages in general and not Rahman and Banu’s separation.
Vandana said on The Chill Hour podcast, “Their (Bollywood) lives are very different. I don’t think infidelity is the cause of a lot of breakdowns in marriages. What is the cause of that marriage breakdown? One is boredom in a marriage because you have seen it all. They move on from one marriage to another because of boredom and that is very peculiar to Bollywood and super-rich families.”
“Secondly, I think they live very different sexual lives which are not out there. The expectations from a sex life are much higher than maybe a normal person’s marriage… Third, adultery happens and one-night stands really don’t matter as much. I’m not a part of Bollywood, I’m just saying from whatever cases have come to me. The main issues are boredom, not being given enough importance or having to listen to others who are not part of the marriage. Others can be the mother, the brother who is providing or the father-in-law,” she explained.
It is important to note here that Vandana spoke about Bollywood marriages in general and not specifically about Rahman and Banu. As for AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s divorce, Vandana said in a statement, as quoted by ETimes, “Every long marriage goes through ups and downs, and I am extremely happy that if it has come to an end, it has done so in a dignified manner. Both Rahman and Saira will continue to support each other and wish each other well.”
However, the lawyer refused to delve into the details of Rahman and Banu’s separation. She said, “Both of them are extremely genuine, and this decision was not taken lightly. It is not what you would call a sham marriage.” She also clarified that their divorce is ‘amicable’ and that there has been no discussion on the financial aspect as of now.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu have three kids together – two daughters, Khatija and Rahima, and a son named Ameen Rahman. The children have requested privacy in their tough times. The couple confirmed their separation on Tuesday night through a joint statement issued by their lawyer.
