Asian Games 2023, Canoe: India’s Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam win bronze medal in Men’s Double 1000m
The Indian duo of Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam secured the bronze medal in the men’s canoe double 1000m final at the 2023 Asian Games, with a time of 3:53.329.
This was India’s second Asian Games medal in canoeing, following a bronze medal by Johnny Rommel and Siji Kumar Sadanandan in the same event in Hiroshima in 1994.
Competing at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre on Tuesday, Sunil Singh Salam and Arjun Singh completed their course in 3:53.329 to earn the podium spot.
Uzbekistan’s Shokhmurod Kholmuradov and Nurislom Tukhtasin Ugli won the gold medal with a time of 3:43.796. Timofey and Sergey Yemelyanov of Kazakhstan won bronze with a time of 3:49.991.
Soniya Devi Phairembam finished eighth in the women’s Kayak Single 500m, clocking 2:14.555 in the other medal races on Tuesday. Soniya was also a member of the women’s kayak four 500m team, which also included Binita Chanu Oinam, Parvathy Geeta, and Dimita Devi Toijam and finished eighth in 1:55.420.
In the women’s canoe double 200m, Kaveri and Neha Devi Leichonbam finished eighth.
The Asian Games 2023 canoe sprint events concluded on Tuesday. The slalom competitions will begin on October 5.
