Delhi Water Minister Atishi continued her indefinite fast over the water crisis in the national capital.
The Aam Aadmi Party said Atishi’s blood pressure and sugar level dropped further as the strike entered its third day. The Aam Aadmi Party said that the doctor advised Atishi to end her strike after her ketone level came back positive. Ketones are acids that the body makes when it’s using fat instead of glucose for energy.
“On the third day of fast, Water Minister Atishi’s ketone level came positive, doctor advised to end fast. Atishi ji’s blood pressure and sugar level also dropped. Atishi is fighting for Delhi’s right to water by risking her life,” AAP’s Sanjay Singh said in a tweet as he shared a video of the Delhi minister from the protest site.
Atishi started the indefinite strike, or ‘Pani Satyagraha’, at Bhogal in south Delhi on Friday. She has claimed that Haryana has reduced Delhi’s share of Yamuna water to 513 million gallons per day (MGD) even as the national capital grappled with a water crisis amid a punishing heatwave.
Delhi is dependent on Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for the supply of drinking water.
The Aam Aadmi Party has claimed that of the 1,005 MGD of water supplied to Delhi daily, the city should get 613 MGD from Haryana. But the national capital is getting less than 513 MGD water from Haryana, the AAP has claimed.
Meanwhile, the BJP slammed the hunger strike, terming it a “political drama”.
