AUS-W vs IND-W: Ellyse completes 4000 ODI runs, hits fastest hundred vs India

Australia’s veteran Ellyse Perry achieved a monumental feat in the 2nd ODI match vs India in Brisbane on December 8, Sunday.

Perry hit her 3rd ODI hundred and also completed 4000 runs in the format. In a scintillating display of batting, she completed her hundred within 72 balls. This was the fastest ODI hundred hit against India women’s cricket team. She also became the 4th Australian to score 4000 runs in women’s ODIs. She shattered plenty of records as Perry became the first woman to complete the double of 7000 runs and 300 wickets in international cricket.

Her 72-ball hundred was the joint-fourth fastest for Australia in women’s ODIs. Perry produced a masterclass in Brisbane by playing a 105-run knock from 75 balls which included 7 fours and 6 sixes. Australia opted to bat first and the openers Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll set the tone early as they shared a 130-run stand. After Litchfield was dismissed for 63-ball 60, Perry walked into bat. Voll anchored the innings brilliantly, smashing her maiden ODI century. She was joined by the experienced Ellyse Perry, who also brought up a hundred, as the duo dismantled India’s bowling attack during the middle overs.

Australia delivered a commanding batting performance, posting a massive 371 runs in their innings — the highest score ever recorded against India in an ODI.

Mammoth chase for India
Indian bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Priya Mishra and Minnu Mani proving particularly expensive. However, the hosts did manage to pull things back slightly in the final five overs, claiming a flurry of wickets to restrict Australia from going beyond 400. Despite the late breakthroughs, Australia managed to put up a daunting total on the board, leaving India with a monumental chase ahead. The visitors will need a herculean batting effort to pull off this game.
