BAN vs NZ: Ish Sodhi called back by Litton Das after Hasan Mahmud attempts run out at non-striker’s end
Bangladesh set an example of sportsman spirit in their second ODI against New Zealand on Saturday, September 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
In the 46th over of the Black Caps’ innings, fast bowler Hasan Mahmud attempted a run out at the non-striker’s end. Ish Sodhi backed up a little too much and Mahmud took it as a chance to take off the bails off on his delivery stride.
The decision was sent upstairs, after which third umpire Nitin Sodhi gave Sodhi out. Thereafter, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar had a chat and decided to call back Sodhi.
Litton also had a chat with the on-field umpire before inviting Sodhi back to the field. Once Sodhi came back, he also shared a hug with Hasan and both looked in good spirits.
The Tigers showed sportsman spirit and Bangladesh remained one of the few teams to not run out a batter at a non-striker’s end in a bowler’s delivery stride.
ISH SODHI PLAYING HANDY CAMEO
Sodhi was batting on 17 off 26 balls when the incident happened. The batter went on to stay not out on 35 off 39 balls with the help of three sixes. After getting the reprieve, Sodhi smashed Mahedi Hasan and Khaled Ahmed for two sixes.
In the final over, Sodhi found an outside edge as Khaled brought an end to the cameo. On the back of Sodhi’s knock, the Kiwis scored 254 in 49.2 overs.
Tom Blundell was the standout batter for the visitors after he scored 68 runs off 66 balls with six fours and a six. Henry Nicholls was also impressive after he scored 49 runs and put on a partnership of 95 runs with Blundell. Khaled and Mahedi Hasan picked up three wickets apiece for the Tigers.
