Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday, July 5, named the Indian squad for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies.
A number of big stars have not been picked as India have given chances to quite a few young stars. Left-handed batter Tilak Varma, who was exceptional for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, earned his maiden national call-up.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who won the Orange Cap in IPL 2023, has also been picked. The pace bowling attack is a young one with the likes of Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar and Arshdeep Singh in it.
Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav are the three specialist spinners, along with the all-round option of Axar Patel.
India have picked two wicket-keepers in the form of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. The squad also has Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill, who have both come up the ranks big time in the last one and half years. Hardik Pandya has been named as the skipper for the series.
The T20I series between India and West Indies will be played from August 3 to August 13. Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba will host the first game of the series, after which the second and third matches will take place at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
The two teams will then move to the United States where the last two T20Is will take place at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida. The Indian squads for the ODI and Test series were named earlier this week.
