In big announcements for Punjab’s farmers, the Bhagwant Mann government has allotted ₹11,560 crore for the agriculture sector. Of the total amount, ₹200 crore will be allotted to resolve the issue of stubble burning.

The state’s finance minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, began presenting the budget on Monday by talking of the government’s anti-corruption drive. He also made a mention of Mann’s action against his own minister Vijay Singla who was recently removed from the cabinet.

In other key announcements, the state government has promised to set up 16 medical colleges in the state in the next five years. “This will bring up the total number of colleges in the state to 25,” Cheema told the state assembly.
