BJP MP Pratap Simha under whose name a visitor pass was issued to one of the men who jumped into the Lok Sabha chambers met House Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday, sources.

The Speaker that the father of the accused, Manoranjan D, resides in his constituency, Mysuru, and had requested the pass to visit the new Parliament building, added the sources.

The BJP MP further said he was constantly in touch with his personal assistant and his office so that Sagar Sharma could visit Parliament. Simha informed the Lok Sabha Speaker that he had no additional information apart from what he shared.

Sagar Sharma was accompanied by Manoranjan D as they jumped from the visitor’s gallery into the chambers carrying gas canisters. Before they were caught by MPs inside the House, the two managed to release yellow gas, causing panic among the parliamentarians.

The incident inside the Lok Sabha chambers happened at the same time that two protesters — a man and a woman — protested outside Parliament premises carrying cans that emitted yellow smoke. The two were identified as Amol and Neelam.

All four have been detained but sources told India Today that six people were involved in the conspiracy.

After it was revealed that Sagar Sharma entered Lok Sabha using a visitor pass issued under Pratap Simha’s name, Congress workers held a protest outside his office in Mysuru.

Congress also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and posted a picture of him and Pratap Simha on its official X account saying, “Infiltration in Parliament on the pass of BJP MP Pratap Simha”.

HOW IS THE PARLIAMENT VISITOR PASS ISSUED
Anyone who wants to visit the Parliament first puts a request in the name of the Member of Parliament from their constituency.

In general, the MPs in whose names the passes are issued, do a security check for the visitors’ access and check the identity cards submitted by such visitors.

The visitors are then made to pass through stringent security checks by the guards and electronic machines deployed at the entrance of the Parliament.

As one of the intruders, Sagar Sharma, got hold of the visitor’s pass in the name of BJP MP Pratap Simha, the police were investigating as to how both the detainees managed to enter the Parliament premised with coloured smoke.
