Burj Khalifa lights up with Women’s T20 World Cup as ICC announces ticket prices

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is just 20 days away and the International Cricket Council unveiled the ticket prices for the matches.

The pricing of the match tickets was kept affordable with prices starting from 5 dirhams (Rs 114.28) and free entry would be provided to those under the age of 18. This initiative was done to draw more crowds and create a lasting legacy of the tournament which was being hosted at the UAE. As part of the announcement of ticket prices, the ICC also released a video of a grand spectacular show of the tournament at the world’s tallest building, Buraj Khalifa.

The Burj Khalifa was lighted up with the colours of the Women’s T20 World Cup as it showcased a promo of the marquee tournament. In a dazzling display, the Burj Khalifa was shining amid all the tall buildings of Dubai. Many spectators stood still to capture it. In the laser show, the coveted silverware was displayed on the iconic building alongside the names of the 10 teams participating. “One of the exciting things about the UAE is its diversity,” the ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said at a media conference on Wednesday.

“It’s a place where the entire world is represented! This means that this is effectively a home World Cup for all 10 teams and players can enjoy the support of passionate fans. With that in mind, I’m delighted to announce today that tickets will be available from just five dirhams and Under 18s will go free.”

The ten teams were divided into two groups of five as they would battle it out across 23 matches in 18 days for the Women’s T20 World Cup trophy, starting October 3. The tournament would take place in a round-robin format as each team would face the other four teams in their group. The top two teams from each group would advance to the knockout stage.

Group A consisted of Australia, alongside India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while Group B comprised of Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland.

The 20 league matches would be held across Dubai and Sharjah and the opener would take place between Bangladesh and Scotland in Sharjah on October 3.

The semi-finals were scheduled for 17 October in Dubai and 18 October in Sharjah. The final will be held in Dubai on October 20.
