Hours after Congress leader Supriya Shrinate clarified an objectionable post on Kangana Ranaut on her Instagram handle.

The party slammed the actor for calling actor Urmila Matondkar, who had earlier joined and quit Congress, a “soft porn star”. Sharing an earlier video of Ranaut talking about Urmila Matondkar, Srinivas BV, president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on X wrote, “What was posted from Supriya Ji’s account was absolutely derogatory. She has not only deleted it but also clarified and Condemned it in the Strongest Terms.” (sic).

“What about you? Calling Urmila Matondkar a ‘soft porn star’ on live TV? Have you condemned it?,” he tweeted.

In the video, Ranaut could be heard saying, “Urmila Matondkar, she is a soft porn star. I know it’s very blatant, but I want to ask you… she is not known for her acting for sure, what is she known for, for doing soft porn, right?”

“If she can get a ticket (for a political party), why won’t I get a ticket?,” Ranaut said in the video.

THE KANGANA-URMILA CONTROVERSY
Urmila Matondkar, who made her political debut as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North constituency, resigned from the party soon after. Later, in 2020, she joined Shiv Sena.

Urmila had slammed Kangana for disrespecting veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, who, in a 2020 speech in Parliament, had objected to the entire film industry being ‘tarnished’.

In an interview, Urmila said, “When Kangana was not even born, Jaya ji was in the film industry. We’re talking about a lady here (Jaya Bachchan) who has herself been an icon. Which part of Indian culture tells you to lash out at people like this?”

SUPRIYA SHRINATE’s POST
On Monday, controversy erupted after an objectionable post on Kangana Ranaut was shared on Shrinate’s Instagram account.

Later, in a video message posted on X, Shrinate claimed that the social media post, which has since been taken down, was made by someone who had access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts.

She also blamed a parody account that was misusing her name on X.

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut hit back at the Congress leader, saying that people should “refrain from using sex workers’ challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur”.

The post on Shrinate’s handle showed a photo of scantily-clad Kangana Ranaut, with a derogatory caption.

Kangana Ranaut was named the BJP candidate from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, while senior party leader Dr Rajeev Bharadwaj would contest from Kangra constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Ranaut and Bharadwaj’s names figured in the fifth list of BJP candidates released on Sunday.
