Curfew imposed in Maharashtra’s Amalner after clashes between 2 groups over minor dispute, 34 people detained

Clashes broke out between two groups following a minor issue between them in Amalner in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district. A curfew has been imposed in the city for 48 hours, police said.

The incident occurred around 10 pm on June 9 (Friday) when there was a heated argument between the two groups over children’s toys. The argument then took a violent turn and both groups pelted bricks on each other.

Police arrived at the spot on receiving information about the clashes. Visuals showed carts being overturned and pieces of bricks being scattered on the road.

A curfew was imposed from 11 am on June 10 to 11 am on June 12 to prevent a breach of peace and maintain law and order. The curfew can be extended if needed.

Police have been deployed at the spot till the curfew is in place.

Jalgaon Superintendent of Police (SP) M Rajkumar said 34 people from both the groups involved in the clashes were detained.

“A fight took place between two groups over a small issue. Police reached the spot and detained 34 people from both groups. The process of filing the FIR is going on. We request people not to believe in any kinds of rumours,” the SP said.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kailas Kadlag appealed to the people of Amalner to stay in their homes during the curfew and cooperate with the district administration.
