Deepika Padukone turned heads last year when she took over the Oscars stage and handed out the prestigious award to the team of ‘RRR’. Now, the actor is all set to present an award in BAFTA 2024.
According to a report in Variety, Deepika is one of the actors all across the globe who will be attending BAFTA as a presenter. On the evening of Sunday, February 11, it was confirmed that the actor will join other International celebrities like David Beckham, Cate Blanchett, Dua Lipa, ‘Emily In Paris’ actor Lily Collins, Adjoa Andoh, Hugh Grant, ‘The Crown’ stars Emma Corrin and Gillian Anderson, Himesh Patel (who was seen in ‘Black Mirror’) and Idris Elba.
Moreover, the Rising Star Award will be presented by former winners Emma Mackay and Jack O’Connell. There will also be performances by Hannah Waddingham and Sophie Ellis Bexter.
Last year, in 2023, Deepika Padukone handed over the Oscars to the team of ‘RRR’ for the song ‘Naatu Naatu’. Introducing it on the stage, she said, “An irresistibly catchy chorus, electrifying beats and killer dance moves to match have made this next song a global sensation. It plays during a pivotal scene in ‘RRR’, a movie about the friendship between real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. In addition to being sung in Telugu and illustrating the film’s anti-colonialist themes, it’s also a total banger. It’s got millions of views on YouTube and Tiktok, has audiences dancing in movie theatres all around the world and is also the first song ever from an Indian production to be nominated for an Oscar.”
Deepika was also hailed for sticking to her accent during the speech.
The ceremony will be held on the night of February 18 at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Those in India can watch it live in the early hours of February 19 on Lionsgate Play.
