Delhi Congress chief demands Ravneet Bittu be sacked for comments on Rahul Gandhi

Days after Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu’s “number one terrorist” comment on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav on Wednesday demanded the BJP leader be sacked immediately.

Yadav, who lodged a formal police complaint against Bittu, demanded the BJP expel leaders who made offensive remarks against Rahul Gandhi. The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief called for legal action from the Union Home Ministry and underscored Gandhi’s ‘bravery’ in his Bharat Jodo Yatra.

According to Yadav, the BJP ‘fears’ Rahul Gandhi’s growing support among marginalised communities and his commitment to defending the Constitution, which has garnered strong backing from millions of Indians.

He reassured that Congress workers firmly stood with the Rae Bareilly MP and were prepared to protect him against any threats.

Addressing Congress workers protesting at the BJP headquarter in Delhi, Yadav criticised BJP leaders for their ‘unacceptable remarks’ and threats towards Gandhi.

A political controversy erupted after Ravneet Singh Bittu attacked Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on Sikhs and claimed he was “not an Indian”. He also said that there should be a reward for catching him as he was “the biggest enemy of the country”.

Ravneet Singh was referring to Rahul’s comments during an event in Virginia in the US, where he had said, “The fight (in India) is about whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear a turban…whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear a kada or go to the gurdwara. That’s what the fight is about, and it’s not just for Sikhs, but for all religions.”

Ravneet Singh further referred to Rahul Gandhi as “the number one terrorist of the country”.

Slamming Bittu for his comments, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said in his post on X that a democracy can only function when there is “basic respect” between political parties and political rivals are treated as “ideological opponents, not personal enemies”.

Ravneet, who was a three-time MP from the Congress, left the party and joined the BJP ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
