Choreographer-director Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle have issued a statement after being accused of cheating a dance troupe of Rs 11.96 crore, along with others.

The couple has requested people not to spread rumours “before ascertaining true facts.” They also stated that they will soon present their side of the story. The statement, shared on Remo and Lizelle’s Instagram accounts, read, “It has come to our notice through media reports that some complaint has been registered alleging fraud in regard to a certain dance troupe. It’s disheartening that such information has been published. We would like to request everyone to abstain from spreading rumours before ascertaining true facts (sic).”

They continued, “We shall put our case forward in due time and will continue to cooperate with the authorities in every way possible, as we have done so far (sic).”

Remo, who has directed the Salman Khan-led film Race 3, concluded the statement by thanking his family, friends, and fans for supporting him and Lizelle during difficult times.

Based on a complaint by a 26-year-old dancer, a case was registered at Mira Road police station in Mumbai on October 16 against Remo, his wife Lizelle, and five others under sections 465 (forgery), 420 (cheating), and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, a police official said.

According to the FIR, the complainant and his troupe were allegedly cheated between 2018 and July 2024.

Remo, popular for judging TV dance reality shows like Dance India Dance and Dance Plus, has also directed the dance franchise ABCD, including the Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Street Dancer.
