A Cochin-bound Air India flight from Dubai was diverted to Mumbai after cabin pressure dropped mid-flight. The AI 934 plane landed safely in Mumbai.

The pilot alerted authorities about the loss of pressurization, before being directed to land in Mumbai.

The aircraft is being grounded and the flight crew has been taken off the roster, sources told India Today TV. Two senior officers have been assigned to conduct a preliminary investigation into the case.

Last week, an IndiGo flight from Sharjah to Hyderabad was diverted to Pakistan’s Karachi after the pilot reported a “technical defect” in the aircraft. It was the second Indian airline to make a landing in Karachi in two weeks, after a SpiceJet craft was diverted to Karachi.

Several aviation incidents in recent times prompted Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to chair a two-hour meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Directions were issued to tighten and further improve safety oversight by the country’s aviation regulator, DGCA. The minister reiterated that passenger safety is paramount, and there will be no compromise with safety, reliability of airline operations and alignment with the strictest international safety norms.
