Former minister and Karnataka BJP MLA Munirathna was egged, literally, by unknown people during an event in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Munirathna was participating in a programme organised to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Laggere, Lakshmidevi Nagar area, located in the western part of the state capital.
After the incident, the BJP accused Congress workers of throwing eggs at the MLA.
The former minister was allegedly attacked while he was walking back after attending the public event. The incident was caught on camera and the video was gaining significant traction on social media.
Reportedly, the R R Nagar legislator was walking to his car after attending the Vajpayee birth anniversary celebrations, when the incident occurred. In the video, the MLA could be seen walking with his associates and some policemen when an egg is thrown at his head from the opposite direction.
The Nandini Layout police station filed a case to look into the incident.
Immediately after the attack, saying he felt burning sensations, the former MLA visited KC General Hospital near Malleshwaram, about 7 km from where he was attacked. According to the sources in the police department, Munirathna was at the hospital till midnight.
However, the doctors cleared him, diagnosing there were no visible injuries on his body. Meanwhile, the police detained three persons in connection with the egg-throwing incident, although their identities were yet to be ascertained.
This was Munirathna’s first key public outing since being let out on bail. He was arrested for rape and intimidation of a woman.
