Indian-American Republican presidential aspirant Nikki Haley has vouched for a female president of the US and said either she or Vice President Kamala Harris will occupy the top post.

She stated that both Donald Trump and Joe Biden were too old to be the president. Haley (52), who is trailing behind Trump in the primaries and polls, did not commit to supporting the 77-year-old former president, who is eyeing a second White House run.

Citing polls, Haley said more than half of Americans did not want to see either Trump or Biden as US president due to their advancing age.

“It doesn’t make me uncomfortable when I am running against him. The whole point of me running is, I don’t think Trump should be the president. The whole reason I am running is I don’t think Biden should be president either,” she told CNN in an interview.

Haley said, “70 per cent of Americans don’t want to see Trump or Biden. 59 per cent of Americans think Biden and Trump are old.”

The former UN ambassador stressed the need for a candidate who can put in eight years of hard work by “not making it about themselves, but making it about the American people”.

“That’s what I am trying to do. A party that gets rid of an 80-year-old candidate is the party that will win. There will be a female president of the US. It will be either me or Kamala Harris, she said.

Haley stated Kamala Harris wouldn’t be the president if the Republicans nominated Trump.

“But if we can go and do what we are trying to do, we are going to make sure that it’s me,” she told CNN.

Haley’s comments came ahead of the Republican primary on February 24 in her home state of South Carolina, where she served as a governor.

Haley also stressed “a new generational leader who’s not distracted by court cases”, in reference to Trump’s legal woes which she has raised throughout her campaign, Axios reported.

“Every poll shows that. He (Trump) will not win and we will have a President Kamala Harris. I am not going to allow that to happen. I am not stopping. I am not going anywhere. We are going to do this for the long haul and we are going to finish it,” she was quoted as saying.

She said the only thing on her mind was “how are we going to win this”.
