Farmers’ organisations will renew their bid to enter Delhi on Wednesday to stage protests in support of their various demands.
In view of the proposed protests, the Delhi Police has upped security at the Tikri, Singhu and the Ghazipur borders, and railway and metro stations and bus stands.
On March 3, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) gave a call to farmers from across the country to reach Delhi on Wednesday, March 6.
The farmers also called for a four-hour countrywide rail roko on March 10 to press the central government to fulfill their various demands, including a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, pension for farmers and farm labourers, farm debt waiver, no hike in electricity tariffs, among others.
The farmers launched their ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest on February 13 but were stopped by the security forces at the border of Haryana and Punjab, leading to several clashes.
The farmers have been staying put at the Shambhu and the Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since then.
The protesting farmers and the Centre have so far held at least four rounds of talks over the former’s demands but to no avail.
