Former US President Jimmy Carter, under hospice care since early 2023, died at 100 in Plains, Georgia, the town where he was born.

He passed away on Sunday (local time), surrounded by his family.
Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work in the promotion of democracy and human rights globally.

During his tenure as the President, he earned admiration for his humanitarian efforts and integrity. He sought to restore trust in government when he entered the White House in 1977, and he went on to build a reputation for himself as one working tirelessly as a humanitarian.

World Leaders React
Outgoing US President Joe Biden said that he lost a dear friend and the world lost a “remarkable leader”.

“This is a sad day, but it brings back an incredible amount of good memories. Today, America and the world, in my view, lost a remarkable leader. He was a statesman and humanitarian. And Jill and I lost a dear friend. I’ve been hanging out with Jimmy Carter for over 50 years. I had countless conversations with him over those years…” he said.

Lauding Carter for his humanitarian works, Biden said, “What I find extraordinary about Jimmy Carter though, is that millions of people all around the world, feel they lost a friend as well, even though they never met him. And that’s because Jimmy Carter lived a life measured not by words, but by his deeds…He worked to eradicate disease not just at home, but around the world. He forged peace, advanced civil rights, human rights, and promoted free and fair elections around the world…”

‘Carter Worked Hard To Make America Better Place’: Donald Trump

While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for. He worked hard to make America a better place, and for that I give him my highest respect. He was a truly good man and, of course, will be greatly missed. He was also very consequential, far more than most Presidents, after he left the Oval Office. Warmest condolences from Melania and I to his wonderful family!” Trump said on Truth Social.
