World number one Iga Swiatek has stormed into the 2023 French Open Final following her straight sets win over Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia at the Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Swiatek beat Haddad Maia 6-2, 7-6 (7) to book a spot in her third final at Roland Garros. The 22-year-old will be looking to defend her French Open crown, having won the title last year and in 2020 as well.

Speaking after her win, Swiatek said she will not make any changes to her game for the final, adding that she will keep the same focus and hope to entertain the crowd on Saturday. The Pole will face Czech Republic Karolina Muchova in the final of the tournament on June 10.

“There is no sense to change anything. If you are in the final it means your whole routine was working. Obviously it’s a little bit different but our goal is to play this match as any other. I’m going to keep the same focus and do what I want on court and hope we’re going to play a nice match and entertain you guys,” said Swiatek.

Earlier in the tournament, Swiatek beat Cristina Bucsa 6-4, 6-0 in the first round, before overcoming USA’s Claire Liu by the same score in round two. In the next round, the Pole thrashed China’s Wang Xinyu 6-0, 6-0, before getting a walkover by Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko in the round of 16. Swiatek then beat sixth seed and last year’s runner-up Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-final to set up her semi-finals clash against Haddad Maia.

Last year, Swiatek defeated Gauff in the French Open final to lift her second Grand Slam, before winning the 2022 US Open. She will now be looking to get her hands on her fourth Grand Slam title when she meets Muchova on Saturday.
