French Open: I know her game, says Iga Swiatek before women’s singles final against Karolina Muchova
World No.1 Iga Swiatek said that she is pretty much aware of Karolina Muchova’s game, having played with her for the last four years.
On Saturday, June 10, the 22-year-old Swiatek and Muchova will face in the French Open 2023 women’s singles final on Court Philippe Chatrier.
On Thursday, Muchova achieved her personal best at majors after advancing to her maiden Grand Slam final. The 26-year-old from the Czech Republic defeated World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling three-setter.
However, Swiatek, who will be looking to win her third title at Roland Garros, said that having followed her opponent for quite some time, she knows Muchova’s style of play.
“I feel like I know Karolina’s game… because I have played many practices with her since 2019 and I also watch her actually more than most of the players,” Swiatek was quoted as saying.
I really respect her: Iga Swiatek
Swiatek, who retained her No.1 ranking after Sabalenka’s exit, also heaped praise on Muchova for straining every sinew and playing with ‘speed’ and ‘technique’.
“I really respect her and she is, I feel, a player who can do anything. She has great touch. She can also speed up the game. She plays withâ€æ freedom in her movements. And she has a great technique,” she stated.
Swiatek has been dominating in the ongoing tournament, having not dropped a single set. Moreover, having won four sets 6-0 in the French Open, Swiatek will be high on confidence.
Swiatek will go into the final after beating Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) on Thursday.
