A furious Rashid Khan threw his bat on to the ground in anger during the final over of the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh clash at St. Vincent on June 25, Tuesday.
The incident took place during the third ball of the final over when Rashid had hit the ball high in the air and was looking for a double. However, his partner Karim Janat refused the second and it left the Afghan skipper fuming.
Rashid proceeded to throw the bat on to the ground in disgust and the willow would bounce and roll on the pitch and reach Janat at the striker’s end. This would leave the entire commentary box in splits with the likes of Ian Smith and Tom Moody struggling to hold back to their laughter. Smith said he had never seen such an incident happen before. Rashid would, however, maximise the over in the end as he finished off the Afghanistan innings with a six off the last the ball as they put on 115 runs in the 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.
How did the first innings unfold in AFG vs BAN?
Afghanistan had won the toss and opted to bat first at St. Vincent. While Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have been the most successful opening pair, they struggled to get going against Bangladesh. The first 9 overs saw both men put on 54 runs as Bangladesh proceeded to put a stranglehold on things after the wicket of Zadran.
Gurbaz tried his best to give a boost at the end, but wickets kept tumbling with Rishad Hossain ending up with figures of 3 for 26 in his 4 overs. Afghanistan had gone from 84 for 2 to 93 for 5 and it was Rashid’s innings that got them to a good score.
Rashid scored 19 off 10 balls with 3 sixes involved in it.
