Legendary Argentine footballer Lionel Messi has hit out at his former football club Paris Saint-Germain for failing to acknowledge his FIFA World Cup glory.

Messi, one of the greatest footballers of all time, completed his trophy cabinet with the elusive World Cup trophy which he lifted as the captain of Argentina and the best player of the tournament in Qatar.

Messi, in his latest interview with Olga, said that he was the only player in the entire Argentine contingent who was not celebrated for being a World Cup winner. Messi revealed that it could have happened because Argentina defeated France in the final of the tournament.

“It was understandable. I was in the place where we had won the final and it was our fault that France hadn’t won the World Cup this time. I was the only player who didn’t get recognition, apart from my 25 other players, but that’s OK,” Messi told Olga in the interview.

The footballer said that while he did not have a great time at PSG, everything happened for a reason and he believes that he needed to move to the French club to win the World Cup.

“That’s how it happened. The truth is that it didn’t go the way I expected, but I always say that things happen for a reason and even though I wasn’t doing well there, it was my turn to be a world champion there,” Messi told Olga.

“Everything happens for a reason and if it had to be like that,” Messi further added.

At the time, however, PSG did post a video of the club welcoming Lionel Messi as the World Cup champion.

At the age of 35, Lionel Messi, delivered an awe-inspiring performance at the FIFA World Cup 2022, marking it as his best ever in the tournament. Messi’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary. He scored in every stage of the tournament, becoming the first player to achieve such a feat. In the final, he scored twice, setting Argentina on the path to victory before France’s Kylian Mbappe attempted a comeback. Messi finished the tournament with seven goals and three assists in seven appearances, playing every single minute of Argentina’s campaign.
