Rinku Singh said that batting in the lower middle-order for various teams has helped him stay calm under pressure.

On Sunday, November 26, the left-handed batter scored 31 runs off nine balls with four fours and two sixes in India’s second T20I against Australia at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

The southpaw came out to bat at No.5 and helped India post a massive score of 235 for the loss of four wickets after being put in by the Aussies.

Rinku, who also played a crucial role in the first T20I in Vizag as well, said that he tries to play shots according to the merit of the ball.

“I bat in this number a lot so I am calm knowing this position. I like to play each ball according to where it lands. I try to notice whether it’s a slower ball or fast ball, and I respond accordingly,” Rinku was quoted as saying after the match.

Rinku also said that he has prepared himself mentally to play the role of a finisher. The southpaw said that VVS Laxman, who is with the Indian team in place of Rahul Dravid, talked to him about the role.

“Finishing only. I know I’ll get 5-6 overs sometimes or maybe 2 overs sometimes. That’s exactly how I practice. As if I’m batting in the last five. That’s what VVS sir has also told me to play in the nets,” he added.

India beat Australia by 44 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The third T20I is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 28 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
