Glenn Maxwell has kept on pulling off surprises in 2023 and it has become understood that nothing is out of his range, absolutely nothing.

The Victorian is in the second-half of his career, but he is getting more and more dangerous. Oppositions simply cannot afford to relax whenever he is in the middle. Maxwell will hurt you, hurt you bad if you take a backseat even for a split second.

Ever since he started playing in World Cup 2023, Maxwell has only added to his reputation of being one of the fiercest strikers of the cricket ball. He looked a tad out of sorts to begin his campaign in the mega event, but then came into his own against the Netherlands at the Arun Jointly Stadium in New Delhi.

Maxwell smashed the fastest hundred in the history of World Cups off a mere 40 balls as the Dutch bowlers were left absolutely clueless. Australia won the match by over 300 runs to stamp their authority. Maxwell wasn’t finished. In the match against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, he played one of the greatest knocks in the history of ODI cricket.

Maxwell smashed an unbeaten 201 as Australia chased down a target of 292 after once being reduced to 97 for seven. Not even the optimists would have thought the Maxwell could pull off something like this. The batter was wincing in pain out of cramps and was even unable to run. But that did not fizzle out his spirit. Rather, he put the Afghan bowlers to the swords with his brutal power-hitting.

MAXWELL KEEPS PLUNDERING BOWLERS

After the World Cup, Maxwell carried his form into the T20I series against India. After failing to perform in the second game in Trivandrum, Maxwell put forth his A-game in the third game of the series at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. With the series on the line, Maxwell scored his fourth T20I hundred as Australia won by five wickets after recording their second-highest successful run-chase in T20Is.

With 21 runs needed off the last ball, Maxwell used the long handle to good effect and carted Prasidh Krishna all around the park. Maxwell played the winning shot with a whip down the ground for a four. He also equaled Rohit Sharma’s record of most hundreds in Men’s T20Is.

Maxwell would not a part of the fourth and fifth T20I of the series, but it can be said that he ended 2023 for the Australian team in the best possible manner. Maxwell has more entertaining to do this year as he gets set to play for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL). So, watch out!
