India condemns Trudeau’s cavalier attitude after his ‘no proof over Nijjar’ admission

India has placed the responsibility for the ongoing diplomatic rift with Canada squarely on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In a late-night statement, the Ministry of External Affairs slammed Trudeau’s handling of the situation, stating that Canada had failed to provide any evidence to support its allegations against India. “What we have heard today only confirms what we have been saying consistently all along — Canada has presented us no evidence whatsoever in support of the serious allegations that it has chosen to level against India and Indian diplomats,” the MEA said in its post-midnight statement.

The statement directly blamed Trudeau for the worsening relations between the two countries. “The responsibility for the damage that this cavalier behaviour has caused to India-Canada relations lies with Prime Minister Trudeau alone,” it added. This sharp response followed Trudeau’s deposition at the foreign interference inquiry, which India viewed as a continuation of unsubstantiated claims. The diplomatic row between India and Canada has intensified in recent weeks, with both sides accusing each other of mishandling the situation.

On Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau testified before a Commission of Inquiry where he admitted that his government only provided “intelligence and no proof” to India over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. He stated that when Canadian agencies asked India to look into the allegations, New Delhi sought proof. “At that point, it was primarily intelligence, not hard evidentiary proof,” Trudeau admitted.

It must be noted that the Indian government has repeatedly charged Canada for making baseless accusations without providing any evidence.
