India pacer Mohammed Shami tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, just a few days before the start of the India vs Australia T20I series in Mohali.

Shami was included in the T20I team after a lengthy absence from the setup. The right-arm pacer’s last involvement in national team colours was in last year’s T20 World Cup, where his performance was scrutinized.

Shami had an incredible outing in the IPL for Gujarat Titans as the Ahmedabad-based outfit lifted the trophy in their maiden campaign. Since then, many former players have been clamouring for the 32-year-old’s inclusion into the T20I setup for India.

The right-arm pacer was excluded from the Asia Cup squad, which didn’t sit well with many fans and critics. Shami was finally called up for the T20 World Cup squad as a standby player and was included in the squad for the upcoming series against Australia which was set to start on 20th September.

However, news broke on Saturday that the 32-year-old had tested positive for Covid-19 and isn’t in Mohali at the moment with the team.

The BCCI medical team is set to make a call on his participation in the series against Australia. But the chances are that he will be ruled out of the three matches against the Aussies.
