India women’s team will get full-fledged coaching staff, says BCCI secretary Jay Shah

Indian cricket board (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday, April 11 confirmed that the board would soon be sending out advertisements for the various positions, including head coach.

In the support staff of the senior women’s cricket team. The decision was taken after BCCI’s Apex Council met on Sunday.

India women’s cricket team, which reached the semi-final of the T20 World Cup earlier this year, has been without a head coach since Ramesh Powar vacated the role in December 2022. Powar was moved to the National Cricket Academy while NCA coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar joined the women’s team as its batting coach.

India women went to the World Cup without a head coach but captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed satisfaction with the way Hrishikesh Kanitkar operated in the global T20 tournament.

“We will soon issue advertisements for various positions for Team India (Senior Women) support staff. Best coaches will be roped in to help our players realise their full potential and achieve excellence on and off the field,” Jay Shah said in a tweet.

India women reached the final of the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and won the Asia Cup title, fighting back from the disappointment of not making the final in the ODI World Cup last year.

The BCCI also hosted the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League which was won by Mumbai Indians. A 5-team tournament held across two venues in Mumbai saw record turnarounds.

Meanwhile, the BCCI also announced the schedule for India’s domestic season 2023-24 on Tuesday after the item was discussed at the Apex Council meeting.

The full-fledged domestic season will kickstart with the Duleep Trophy. The coveted tournament will be played from June 28, 2023 to July 16, 2023. It will be followed by the Prof. Deodhar Trophy – to be played from July 24, 2023 to August 03, 2023. One of the premier domestic cricket tournaments in the world of cricket – the Ranji Trophy – kicks off from January 05, 2024 and goes on till March 14, 2024.

The women’s domestic cricket season will begin with the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, which will be played from October 19, 2023 to November 09, 2023.

It will be followed by the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Trophy – to be played from November 24, 2023 to December 04, 2023. The 2024 will begin with the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy, which will commence on January 04, 2024 and the final of the same will be played on January 26, 2024.
